St. Mark’s Medical Center Earns “A” Rating for Patient Safety

La Grange, Texas – (May 8, 2018) – St. Mark’s Medical Center has earned an “A” rating on the recently released Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade report, a voluntary survey evaluating 2,500 acute-care hospitals nationwide on their patient safety performance.

Nationwide, only 30 percent of the hospitals graded earned the coveted “A” rating. St. Mark’s is the only hospital within 50 miles to achieve this prestigious honor. Top rated hospitals have better systems in place to prevent medication errors and lower infection rates, among other laudable attributes.

“We are honored to receive this distinguished award,” said Tammy Hartfield, RN, Chief Nursing Officer for St. Mark’s Medical Center. “But in reality, this award belongs to each and every person on the St. Mark’s team. Consistently, they are laser-focused on important elements of patient safety like rigorous hand hygiene, using procedural check-lists and other techniques that help prevent errors, and planning and goal-setting for quality improvement.”

Hartfield added, “Above all, this important award lets our patients and their families know that St. Mark’s Medical Center leadership, board, physicians and staff are dedicated to providing quality and safe patient care.”

Twice yearly, The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assesses patient safety performance of participating hospitals. Based on the aggregated results of 27 performance measures, the hospitals earn a letter-grade of “A” through “F,” representing the complete picture of a hospital’s performance and ability to keep its patients free from preventable hospital errors, accidents, injuries and infections. The Leapfrog Group is an advocacy group for quality and safety in American healthcare.
